Summer is just around the corner, and that means it’s time for another magical outdoor theatre experience! The Hazlitt Theatre’s Open Air Summer Tour is back for its fifth year, bringing the ultimate family adventure to Maidstone from 16th – 23rd August. So, grab your picnic baskets, round up your loved ones, and get ready for a hilarious, heartwarming journey with Wind in the Willows!

A Summer Tradition Returns

Thanks to the continued support of Maidstone Borough Council, the Hazlitt Theatre and Parkwood Theatres, this beloved summer tradition is set to be bigger and better than ever. Featuring an expanded tour of stunning outdoor locations, this year’s performances will take place at popular spots like:

  • Hermitage Millennium Amphitheatre
  • Bearsted Green
  • Little Fant Farm
  • Lenham
  • Stockbury
  • South Park
  • …and more to be announced soon!

Last year’s Hazlitt Theatre Open Air Summer Tour was a huge hit, and due to overwhelming demand, the show is returning to even more venues, allowing even more families to experience the joy of live theatre in the great outdoors.

An Adventure with Mole, Ratty, and Mr. Toad!

This August, step into the whimsical world of Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale as we follow the charming and chaotic misadventures of Mole, Ratty, Badger, and, of course, the reckless Mr. Toad.

Bored of spring cleaning, Mr. Mole decides it’s time for a change and sets off for an exciting new life by the river. Along the way, he befriends the adventurous Ratty, the wise Badger, and the larger-than-life Mr. Toad, who has a serious need for speed! But Toad’s wild obsession with motorcars soon lands him in deep trouble—can his friends save him before it’s too late?

With its laugh-out-loud comedy, thrilling chases, and heartwarming friendships, this funny and fast-paced adaptation will have audiences of all ages hooked from start to finish.

Meet the Director: Jenny Clarke

Summer Tour Director, Jenny Clarke, is thrilled to be bringing this well-loved tale to life:

“This is our biggest tour yet and I couldn’t think of a better show to put on. I love the different characters, and I am looking forward to getting our own adaptation that will be based around local areas. This is going to be a funny, silly show for all the family to enjoy!

And with the Hazlitt Theatre celebrating its 70th year, there’s no better time to be part of this special summer tradition.

Affordable Fun for Everyone!

One of the best things about the Hazlitt Theatre’s Open Air Summer Tour is its affordability.

🎟️ All tickets are just £5 each (or a fantastic family ticket for 4 at just £15!).

This means everyone can enjoy a magical day of theatre without breaking the bank.

A Theatre Experience Like No Other

There’s something truly special about watching live theatre under the open sky, surrounded by nature and community spirit.

Councillor Stephen Thompson, Maidstone Borough Council Cabinet Member for Healthier Stronger Communities, shares his excitement for this year’s tour:

“We are delighted to partner again with the Hazlitt Theatre to help bring these wonderful outdoor shows to many beautiful parts of our borough in the excellent company of Ratty, Mole, and Mr. Toad. They are a great way for the whole family to enjoy theatre. I know tickets will sell fast, so remember to book early.”
